🌱 Marines Train To Shoot Down RU Helicopters Near Yuma + Mobile Fire

Happy Monday, people of Yuma! Here’s everything you need to know about what’s happening locally today.

First, today’s weather:

Here are the top three stories today in Yuma:

  1. The Marine Corps recently revealed it conducted Weapons and Tactics Instructor (WTI) course 2-22, at Auxiliary Airfield II, near Yuma, Arizona. WTI is a seven-week training event hosted by Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron One (MAWTS-1), providing standardized advanced tactical training and certification to support Marine aviation training and readiness. During the training Marines were also trained with a self-contained air defense system to shoot down Russian-made helicopters, such as the Russian-made Mi-24 Hind. (The Defense Blog)
  2. On Saturday afternoon, the Rural Metro Fire Department (RMFD) and Yuma Fire Department (YFD) worked together to contain a mobile home fire burning near the Fortuna Foothills. The double-wide mobile home fire was on E. Saddle Drive and S. Clementine Avenue, off of Interstate 8. RMFD reported one minor injury that did not require hospitalization, and Battalion Chief Jeff Woodruff of Rural Metro Fire reported the fire had been cleared . (KYMA)
  3. A job fair focused on law enforcement is coming to Yuma County tomorrow. The Arizona at Work fair is scheduled for Tuesday, Apr. 26, and will take place at the MLK Neighborhood Center on 13th Avenue and 3rd Street. Several local agencies will be represented, including the Yuma Police Department and Sheriff’s Office. Officials recommend bringing multiple copies of your resume and dressing professionally. Pre-registration is encouraged, but walk-ins are also welcome. (KYMA)

  • More indoor summer programming is now available with the City of Yuma Parks and Recreation. The department will be offering classes, courses, and recreation fun at the Boys and Girls Center during the months of June and July. (Facebook)
