Here are the top three stories today in Yuma:

1. Yuma Police officers responded to a call on Monday of an injury collision on 4th Avenue and 14th Street just after midnight. The early investigation revealed a 24-year-old female and a 47-year-old passenger were heading southbound on 4th Avenue nearing 14th Street at a high-speed, at about 12:09 am While speeding, the car swerved left and crossed all lanes then hit a light pole and caught on fire with both people trapped inside. Both driver and passenger were taken to the Yuma Regional Medical Center and transported to Phoenix-area hospitals with life-threatening injuries. (KYMA)
2. Since late December, two special units were at Yuma Regional Medical Center to team up with its core staff and seasonal employees, helping them get through another difficult COVID-19 surge. YRMC recently thanked the physician, physician assistant, nurses, and paramedics – including members of the Air Force – who stepped up to help the Yuma community in a time of need. Originally assigned to YRMC for 30 days, the need was greater than anticipated and their mission extended to nearly 75 days. (Yuma Regional Medical Center)
