🌱 Yuma May Get Gov. Funds For Border Crisis + ASU Local Program

Here are the top three stories today in Yuma:

  1. As the crisis at the border continues, US Senators Mark Kelly and Kyrsten Sinema, both Democrats, are pushing for more money to tackle the crisis. The senators are both part of an effort to bring millions of dollars in emergency funding, some of which may come to the Yuma area. If passed, a government funding bill would bring $150 million dollars in emergency funding to deal with the crisis. (KYMA)
  2. Local college students in Yuma may now get a college education through Arizona State University without having to leave Yuma. Arizona Western College is now offering over 130 college degrees through a program called ASU Local offered by the university. ASU Local is a hybrid experience so students can get an education online while still having that in-person interaction without having to leave Yuma. (KYMA)
  3. The City of Yuma has welcomed Isaiah Kirk as its new Director of Information Technology. Kirk is a 21-year veteran of the United States Marine Corps and brings more than 20 years of knowledge, leadership, and experience in the field of communications. Kirk replaces Kathleen Fernandez, who left Yuma for a subsequent opportunity. (City of Yuma)

  • The Yuma Regional Medical Center has announced that it was able to close its COVID unit over the weekend, due to a significant decline in COVID-19 hospitalizations. (Facebook)
  • Attention fellow archers! The Parks and Recreation Department has exciting news about its Archery program. Archers will learn and practice range safety. The focus will be on basic form skills to become a successful archer. Archers will shoot from the 5-yard or 10-yard line depending on skill level. All equipment is provided. (Facebook)
