🌱 AZ Peace Officers Memorial Day + Yuma Co. Ballot Harvesting Pleas

Happy Tuesday, people of Yuma! Here’s everything you need to know about what’s happening in town today.

First, today’s weather:

Warm with plenty of sunshine. High: 93 Low: 58.

Here are the top three stories in Yuma today:

  1. In honor of the 26 state peace officers killed in the line of duty in 2021, flags on Arizona state buildings were ordered to half-staff throughout Monday. The ceremonial act is a part of the state’s 48th annual observance of Arizona Peace Officers Memorial Day. The annual ceremony took place at the recently renovated Arizona Peace Officers Memorial and included public remarks, a helicopter flyover, and a rifle salute. The names of the 26 officers were recently inscribed between several of the massive granite panels surrounding the bronzed central figure of the memorial, bringing the total number of names etched into the stone to 388. (AZ Central)
  2. A Phoenix judge sentenced a woman to two years of felony probation, fines and community service for voting her dead mother’s ballot in Arizona in the 2020 general election. The woman, 64-year-old Tracey Kay McKee, claimed to a Maricopa County Superior Court judge that she had no intent to impact the outcome of the election and was grieving over the loss of her mother. Although sentenced to probation, the judge rejected a prosecutor’s request that she serve at least 30 days in jail. The case against McKee is one of just a handful of voter fraud cases from Arizona’s 2020 election. In Yuma County, two women also accused of ballot harvesting will face a judge again this month.
