Here are the top three stories today in Yuma:

  1. The annual Yuma County Early Childhood Education Conference returned in person this weekend after two years of virtual events. Attendees gathered at Arizona Western College on Saturday, Apr. 2 to enjoy a keynote address, exhibits, and workshops about the current state of early childhood education, especially post-pandemic. “We want to provide the conference in-person to give educators the tools they need to provide to the children they are serving,” said spokesperson Nena Garcia.   2. The Marine Corps Air Station in Yuma has converted the last of its four Marine Attack Squadrons from AV-8B Harriers to the F-35B Joint Strike Fighter II. VMA-214, known as Black Sheep, was redesignated as VMFA-214 during a ceremony held in the squadron’s hangar this weekend. The ceremony was presided over by Maj. Gen. Bradford J. Gering, commanding general of 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, who said the switch to the F-35B “represents a leap forward in the Marine Corps’ air dominance.” (US News & World Report)
  3. Beginning this Wednesday, Apr. 6, the Yuma County Library District is hosting a series of #CyberSafe workshop to help local small business owners protect themselves from cyber threats. The five-workshop series will be held at the Yuma County Main Library at 2951 S. 21st Drive every other Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:00 pm, and any interested parties can register by calling the library at (928) 373-6514 .
