On the second and third day of the Speedo Spring Sectional Championships, the Foothills Swim Team led all participants and won 3 of the 4 contested relays. In addition, 14-year-old Jade Garstang won 2 events dominantly and led a group of young swimmers to attend the meeting.

Friday

100 backs

14 years old Jade Garstang led the women’s race in a time of 55.68 and dominated the field with almost 2 seconds. With her performance, Garstang came within a tenth of her best time of 55.53. 17 years old Elleana Lopez finished second in a time of 57.48, just touching Elizabeth Mercer who took 3rd place in a time of 57.50.

16 years old for men Chase Mueller threw a personal best of 49.22 to touch it first, earning his first qualifying time for junior nationals in the process. With this performance he cut off almost a second from his previous best and broke the 50-second mark for the first time. 18-year-old Bryce Ortanes finished second with the 16-year-old in 49.29 Marcus Gentry Become third and touch 49.69.

200 freestyle

Kathryn Shanley She prevailed against her top position in the women’s race and finished first overall with a time of 1: 49.43. Another 18 year old, Alexander McMahon won the men’s race with a time of 1: 38.06. During the day, McMahon dropped more than two seconds from his personal best and broke the 1:40 mark for the first time. Peter Thompson finished second in a time of 1: 39.32 and was within 0.03 of his personal best.

400 IM

16 years old Colleen Macwilliams Cut off a second of her personal best on the way to first place and touch her in a time of 4: 26.73. After her second place in the 100 back, Lopez reached another second place here and swam a time of 4: 31.31.

17 years old Evan Vanbrocklin drove the men’s best time of 4: 00.61 and won the race by over 2 seconds. After the 16-year-old took the first seed in the preliminary rounds with a 4-second drop Colin Cosgrove finished second overall and reduced his best time by another second in a time of 4: 02.59.

400 free relay

The Foothills Swim Team won the women’s race with the team from Turney, Kathryn Shanley, Sophie Porter, and Melinda Johnson. The girls bonded for a time of 3: 31.69 to shorten one second of their start time. Both Turney and Shanley split: 51 on their feet, the two fastest splits in the field.

The boys Aquawolves Swimming won their event in a time of 3: 02.28. The McMahon team, William Dravenstott, Nikolas Siloahtiand Bryce Ortanes beat the field by more than 5 seconds on the way to victory.

Saturday

200 backs

Sophia Frei closely touched Melinda Johnson from .01 for winning the women’s event. The two swimmers gave times of 2: 02.42 and 2: 02.43 respectively. Frei, who came eleventh with a personal best of 2: 06.87, cut off over 4 seconds over the course of the day.

16 years old Chase Mueller fell back over a second on the way to victory in the men’s race, setting a time of 1: 46.16. Another 16 year old, Marcus Gentry, was second behind Müller with a time of 1: 46.77.

500 freestyle

18-year-old Kathryn Shanley drove past the rest of the field and won the 500 women’s freestyle in a time of 4: 46.71. With her performance, Shanley cut her personal best, which was previously 4: 48.26, by one second. 17 years old Alexander Turney won the men’s event by almost a second with a time of 55.15 and lost 0.3 of his best time. Behind Turney, 18 years old Liam Kerns won a close fight for second place with a time of 56.12. All swimmers in places 2 to 8 finished in the heat within half a second.

100 butterfly

After winning the 200 butterflies and 100 backs, he was 14 years old Jade Garstang won her third event of the meeting with a time of 55.34 to take first place in the women’s 100 butterfly. 17 years old Julia Matney lost 0.3 of her best time to finish second and finished 56.18.

Like Garstang, Alexander McMahon finished the sweep of the butterfly events on the men’s side and fell back over a second to win the men’s event in a time of 47.54. 16 years old Marcus Gentry also fell back a second and finished second in a time of 49.17.

800 freestyle relay

The Foothills Swim Team won their second freestyle relay event of the weekend on the women’s side when the team of Turney, Johnson, Jacobsen and Shanley tied for the last time at 7: 37.08. Remarkably, Shanley was the only swimmer in the entire field to split below 1:50 for a 1: 49.49.

The men from Foothills made it a win for the team, winning the men’s 800 freestyle relay by 3 seconds. The team at Chase Mueller, Henry Mueller, Tristen Davin, and Peter Weinstein got on the way to victory within 0.1 of their start time.
