$473 Million Powerball Ticket Sold In Arizona

GILBERT, AZ — A Powerball ticket worth about $473 million was sold at a gas station in Gilbert.

The Powerball drawing Wednesday night revealed the winning numbers as 11, 36, 61, 62, 68 with Powerball number 4.

The winning ticket was sold at a QuikTrip store on South Gilbert Road, about 19 miles southeast of Phoenix, officials said.

“We are excited to celebrate this huge $473.1 million Powerball jackpot win for one very lucky Arizonan,” Gregg Edgar, executive director of the Arizona Lottery, said in a statement. “This is the biggest ever jackpot won on a single ticket in our state, and it is a life-changing moment for this winner. It also means millions of dollars to our state’s economy, to this winner’s community, and to the vital programs and services funded by Arizona Lottery ticket sales.”

The ticket holder can choose between an estimated annuity of $473.1 million, paid in 30 installations over 29 years, or receive a lump sum payment of $283.3 million. Both prize options will be taxed.

More than 1.4 million tickets won cash prizes in the drawing, including a ticket sold in Indiana that matched all five white balls to win $1 million.

This was the third time the Powerball jackpot has been won this year. On Jan. 5, two tickets in California and Wisconsin split a $632.6 million jackpot – the 7th largest prize in Powerball history. Then in a Valentine’s Day drawing, a ticket sold in Connecticut won a $185.3 million jackpot.

Powerball tickets cost $2 per play and are sold in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.

The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million.
