5 monthly rainfall records in northern Arizona in July
FLAGSTAFF, Arizona (AP) – An active monsoon season around northern Arizona in July set five monthly rainfall records, officials said.
Last month, Show Low had 8.79 inches (22.33 centimeters) of rain, although the city typically rained 2.35 inches (5.97 centimeters) in July, said meteorologists for the National Weather Service in Flagstaff.
The city of Payson had 6.98 inches (17.73 centimeters) of rainfall last month, beating the July average of 2.81 inches (7.14 centimeters), officials said. St. John’s had 4 inches (10.16 centimeters) of rainfall last month, compared to its usual July average of 1.41 inches (3.58 centimeters).
Weather forecasters also reported last month that Walnut Canyon National Monument had 8.67 inches (22.02 centimeters) of rainfall, which exceeded the usual 2.55 inches (6.48 centimeters) average for July. Meanwhile, Tuzigoot National Monument near Clarkdale had 6.14 inches (15.6 centimeters) of rainfall, compared to its usual average of 1.64 inches (4.17 centimeters).
Other northern Arizona cities like Page and Window Rock also had above average rainfall last month but failed to break records.
