A big win for small local businesses as the new Yuma store opens its doors

YUMA, Arizona (KYMA, KECY) – On Thursday night, The Concept Shop cut the ribbon and opened its doors as a brand new consignment store on South Avenue B in Yuma.

The consignment store is called a retail store that accepts items from other local businesses and sells them for a percentage of the proceeds. In return, bringing local businesses together and helping improve local shopping in the hopes of building each business.

The concept shop includes products from clothing and jewelry to a variety of healthy gluten-free snacks from other local businesses.

The idea was inspired by a trip to Mexico some time ago. It was at this point that Nidya De La Torre came across a very successful consignment shop run by her friend Lluvia Marquez. The two then decided to bring this idea to the table to help and improve small businesses across the border in Yuma.

There are also opportunities for small businesses in Yuma to work together and get back on their feet after the pandemic.

“My idea was to bring all companies together and become one. We’ll help each other grow,” said De La Torre. “I know what it’s like to go through the pandemic and have my own small business. I love helping other small businesses. I shop locally and that’s a big deal for me. We bring everyone together. ”

The tape cutting took place right outside the doors of the building that De La Torre had available in March. A quick turnaround, but a special event where many people gather to witness the opening.

At the side of De La Torre were her business partner Lluvia Marquez and the entrepreneur and social media influencer Linda Parra. De La Torre invited Parra to the event as her “Madrina”. Madrina means godmother in Spanish.

The Chamber of Commerce also showed its support by making the opening statements and signing the ribbon.

“I’m really looking forward to Nidya and everyone else involved, especially local businesses,” said Parra. “It’s great because it gives small businesses the chance to become bigger when they come together. Maybe they aren’t that strong on their own, but together in a community collaboration like this, the opportunities are endless. The possibilities are endless . ”

De La Torre says this business will not only help local businesses thrive, but will also create more jobs in Yuma as she hopes to open more and more businesses over the years.

“It will definitely open more jobs here in Yuma,” said De La Torre. “The sky is the limit.”
