Advance historic page from August 10, 1993: schools tested for asbestos

STATEN ICELAND, NY – The archive page today is dated August 10, 1993.

Classrooms at 28 schools on Staten Island are being closed to emergencies as part of an asbestos detection program.

According to District 31 school principal, Christy Cugini, locations with five to nine potential trouble spots are: PS 38, Midland Beach; PS 39, Arrochar; PS 42, Eltingville; PS 57, Clifton.

If asbestos is found in any of the elementary or middle schools inspected, the site will be closed while the material is being removed.
