STATEN ISLAND, NY — Today’s archive page is from Jan. 10, 1952.

Safeway publishes an ad in the Advance informing shoppers that they can be sure of good eggs purchased from its locations, because every egg is graded.

“No guesswork when you buy eggs at Safeway,” the ad reads.

Large white Breakfast Gem Grade A eggs are 63 cents per dozen. Large mixed Oak Glen Grade A eggs are 59 cents per dozen.

Some additional products highlighted in the ad include: grapefruit, priced at 8 cents a pound; ground beef, priced at 65 cents a pound; salad oil, priced at 64 cents a bottle.
