Akron, Arickaree golfers see tough competition in Yuma – Akron News reporter

It was a hot day on the golf course when boys from Akron and Arickaree took part in the Yuma Invitational last Friday at Indian Hills Golf Course.

Brush took home the team title with a 264, followed by host Yuma in a close second with a 269. Wray and Cheyenne Wells tied for third with a 272, followed by Sterling (286), Holyoke (289), Stratton (289), Burlington (294), Fort Morgan (321), Resurrection Christian (345), Liberty Joes (359), Akron (362) and Arickaree (382).

Arickaree senior Bryce Shaffer finished the highest among Washington County athletes, landing in a three-way tie for 44th place with a 115. Akron senior Jackson Filla came in right behind in 47th with a 116, while his Ram teammate, junior Jaxson Samber, tied for 49th with a 118. Darin Knutzen, Akron sophomore, tied for 57th with a 128. Junior Kalen Kemp, of Akron, shot a 131 to tie for 61st place. Arickaree senior Jacob Jefferson ended the day in 63rd with a 133, and junior MJ Kenney, also of Arickaree, shot a 134 to place 64th.

Both teams were at the Burlington Invite Tuesday, August 16. Arickaree had a quick turnaround, heading to Cheyenne Wells this Friday, August 19. Akron will have some time off before their next tournament Friday, August 26 in Holyoke.
