Arbor Day: Planting Roots in Yuma

The Yuma School District One is celebrating Arbor Day with the City of Yuma and the Arizona Public Service

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) – Depending on where you look, there has been an Arbor Day for some time. Here in the States, we celebrate the day on the last Friday in April.

But as with anything else, there are some rules to be broken. On April 21, 2021, a Wednesday, the Yuma School District One celebrated Arbor Day in their own way.

The event was a coordinated event between the school district, the city of Yuma, and the Arizona civil service. During a special ceremony, students, staff, and parents came together to plant a few trees.

Thirty-seven trees to be precise, Yuma City brought their parks and recreation team to help the children plant the latest additions for their school. The headmistress Nicole Wilhelmy sees something in the new additions that not only beautifies her school, but also gives the children a sense of personal responsibility.
