Arizona State Senator Tony Navarrete was arrested by Phoenix Police

Senator Tony Navarrete, a Phoenix Democrat, was arrested by Phoenix police on Thursday, Senate colleagues confirmed.

The reason for the arrest is unknown.

In a statement, Senate Democrats said, “We know that one of our members has been arrested and are waiting for more details and for law enforcement to do their job. We will not make any further comments at this point. “

Navarrete, 35, was elected to the State House in 2016 and served one term before being elected to the State Senate in 2018, where he is still in office.

The Phoenix Police did not immediately respond to requests for information about the arrest.
