Arrested in fatal shooting at West Phoenix Mall »Albuquerque Journal
PHOENIX – Phoenix police said Saturday they had arrested a 20-year-old man who had not previously been linked to a fatal shootout that resulted from an argument between two customers and a person standing at a kiosk in worked at a mall
Alexi Acosta, the man arrested Friday on suspicion of murder and aggravated assault, was somehow connected to the employee, but information about the nature of their relationship wasn’t immediately available, said Sgt. Andy Williams, a police spokesman.
Acosta was arrested after investigators obtained information through witness interviews and surveillance videos, a police statement said.
Police had not previously said that a fourth person was involved in the February 14 incident at Desert Sky Mall, which involved a dispute over goods. Police also previously said that one victim “showed a gun and then both victims were shot”.
Police have identified the customer who was killed as 17-year-old Alejandro Martinez and said the second victim, a 20-year-old man, was seriously injured.
The kiosk employee was not injured and police said after the incident that the employee was working with investigators.
Acosta remained in jail on Saturday and online court records did not indicate whether he had a lawyer to comment on the allegations on his behalf.
