Assistance League of Tucson kicks off book donation week for local youth | News
TUCSON (KVOA) – To help inspire the love of books in kids around Tucson, the Assistance League of Tucson officially kicked off it’s Action Week book drive on Tuesday.
For the fifth year, the local nonprofit launched its weeklong focus on literacy on Tuesday, giving residents the opportunity to donate new books for children ages 0-12 at a variety of locations across Tucson through March 1.
According to the organization, book donations can be dropped off at Assistance League of Tucson’s thrift shop at 1307 N. Alvernon Way, Mildred & Dildred at 1725 N. Swan Rd., Mostly Books at 6208 E. Speedway Blvd. and the Barnes & Noble at 5130 E. Broadway Blvd.
Organizers say Spanish and bilingual books are especially needed.
“Many of Tucson’s children don’t have new, age appropriate books in the home and the Assistance League of Tucson’s book drive is looking to change that,” Assistance League of Tucson said in a press release. “All books stay in Tucson and are distributed through Assistance League of Tucson’s “Hooked on Books” program.”
The nonprofit said people can also donate books online at ALTucson.org.
