AZ Monsoon comes to an end: Tucson could pack more rain on the grand total
TUCSON, AZ – In Tucson, there was a chance it rained Thursday to round off an extra wet monsoon.
In Tucson on Thursday there was a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms with an expected high of 83 degrees.
On Thursday morning, the city’s rainfall for the 2021 monsoon was 12.78 inches, more than double the 5.69 average. If Tucson stops receiving measurable rain on Thursday, 2021 would be the third wettest monsoons on record, according to the National Weather Service.
Despite the unusual rainfall this year, the Tucson area is still in an unusually dry to moderate drought, the weather service said.
This year’s monsoon was a big change from 2020, the second driest season on record with a meager 1.62 inches of rain.
