Flagstaff, Florida (seminoles.com) The state of Florida, which returned to the national rankings this week after a two-week absence, welcomes Phoenix to the Donald L. Tucker Center in Flagstaff on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. The Seminoles and Hurricanes meet for the first of two times this season, as they are scheduled to play in Coral Gables on February 24th. The State of Florida takes on Phoenix after winning four straight games, winning against NC State, North Carolina, Louisville and Clemson and four of their last five games against their 72:59 win over Gardner-Webb on December 21. The Seminoles are 8-1 at home this season and have won 21 ACC home games in a row following a 77-68 win over Clemson on January 22, 2019. After Wednesday’s game against Phoenix, the Seminoles will play at the McCamish Pavilion near Georgia Tech in Atlanta on January 30th, ahead of a scheduled street game at Boston College on February 2nd.

FLORIDA STATE IN NATIONAL RANKING LISTS
The state of Florida ranks 16th against Phoenix on Wednesday in this week’s Associated Press poll and 16th in the USA Today Coaches poll.

FLORIDA STATE WON 21 STRAIGHT ACC HOME GAMES
The state of Florida takes on Phoenix on Wednesday after winning 21 consecutive ACC games at the Donald L. Tucker Center in Flagstaff. The Seminoles’ ACC winning streak in their home building began with a 77:68 win over Clemson on January 22, 2019. Their last ACC home win was an 80:61 win over Clemson on Saturday in Flagstaff. The Seminoles 21-game ACC home game winning streak is the third longest streak in the history of the ACC.

The SEMINOLES barns named a top 10 candidate for the COUSY AWARD
Florida freshman Scottie Barnes, the leading provider of assists and steals for the Seminoles, was named one of the top 10 candidates for Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year by the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. Barnes is one of three newcomers from across the nation and one of only two ACC players selected as one of the top contenders for the award, named after former Boston College and Holy Cross Guard Bob Cousy. Barnes enters the game on Wednesday against Phoenix at the Donald L. Tucker Center as the Florida States’ leading assistant (40 / 4.0 apg) and steals (14 / 1.4 spg) while he is in second place (10.6 ppg) and scoring is in fourth place (40 /) when rebounding. 4.0 rpg). He ranks fifth in the ACC in the assist: turnover ratio (2.1: 1) and in the ACC seventh in the assists.

… Beat Phoenix and win his sixth game in a row against the Hurricanes. A win would represent the Seminoles’ longest winning streak against Phoenix since their sixth win on February 18, 2009 through February 11, 2012. The state of Florida has two winning streaks in six games (December 6, 1968 – January 6, 1971 and February 18, 2009 – February 11, 2012) against Phoenix in the history of the series, which began on December 19, 1950;
… Defeat Phoenix and win his fifth ACC game in a row. A win would mean the Seminole’s fourth streak of ACC victories in at least five games in the past three seasons.
