Biden’s proposal would reduce train services to Phoenix, Vegas | restore government. & Politics

PHOENIX (AP) – President Joe Biden’s infrastructure improvement program would include restoring intercity rail passenger services from Amtrak to Phoenix and Las Vegas.

Both cities were removed from the Amtrak network in the 1990s – Las Vegas because a train between Los Angeles and Ogden, Utah and Phoenix no longer stopped because another train that used to pass through Phoenix was diverted within Arizona .

Since 1996, the Amtrak station in Maricopa, about 43 kilometers south of Phoenix, has been the stopover in Arizona’s most populous city.

A map released Wednesday to illustrate Biden’s planned expansion of the Amtrak national network shows a new route between Las Vegas and Los Angeles and the restoration of previously suspended service through Phoenix on a route between Los Angeles and New Orleans.
