PHOENIX – More than a year after the doors closed at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Phoenix Public Library buildings will gradually reopen next week.
Phoenix City Council unanimously voted to resume operations of the indoor library last week, although reservations, face-covering and social distancing will be required.
The following eight libraries will be welcoming visitors again on Monday: Burton Barr Central, Agave, Cesar Chavez, Cholla, Desert Broom, Ironwood, Mesquite, and Palo Verde.
On May 3rd, the branches Desert Sage, Harmon, Juniper and Saguaro will reopen.
The remaining four locations – Acacia, Century, Ocotillo Library & Workforce Literacy Center, and Yucca – will open their doors on May 17th.
Residents can make reservations for 45-minute visits up to three days in advance starting Friday through phoenixpubliclibrary.org or the library call center at 602-262-4636.
Visitors passing by can request reservations at the door. However, each facility has a capacity limit that varies by location.
The buildings are open Monday to Saturday from 12.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. The cash register is available via self-service kiosks and internet access.
Roadside pick-up for items checked out online continues Monday through Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
The Phoenix Public Library buildings have been closed since March 16, 2020. Since May last year, residents at most locations have been able to check out items for roadside pickup.
