Border Patrol dog sniffs two large drug busts in Yuma

YUMA, Ariz. (KVOA) – A Yuma Sector Border Patrol dog sniffed more than seven pounds of fentanyl on Monday, leading to his second major drug attack in a week.

At around 3 p.m., agents at the Highway 78 immigration checkpoint designated a Dodge Dakota as the secondary inspection area after a dog alerted them to the vehicle.

When searching the vehicle, the agents found a leather jacket hidden under the back seat. The sleeve hid a taped pack containing over seven pounds of fentanyl. The fentanyl was valued at more than $ 76,000. It was immediately confiscated.

Two residents of Brawley, California were arrested in connection with the investigation.

CBP said drug detection dog Cibi also reported more than 60 pounds of methamphetamine worth $ 108,000 that was hidden in a vehicle on April 5.
