YUMA, Arizona (KYMA, KECY) – The Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) said it had no choice but to release more than a dozen undocumented immigrants who were found in a van on Friday morning.
The reason for this is a lack of federal aid.
The traffic stops were along Interstate-10 south of Phoenix.
According to Arizona Public Safety, a van driven by a U.S. citizen was stopped for a traffic violation.
During the stop, the soldiers found 17 undocumented immigrants inside.
When the soldiers asked the Immigration and Customs Service (ICE) and the US Border Patrol to take custody of the group, the authorities refused.
A Border Patrol statement said in part that it could not respond because agents were actively involved in other “ongoing ban efforts”.
In a statement, ICE said that when officers were finally able to respond, the occupants of the vehicle left.

In a series of tweets later on Friday, Arizona Governor Doug Ducey took the Biden administration to task to clarify immigration issues.
Ducey called the White House “asleep at the counter” and says the border police need help.
