Burns continue to be set on fire in the Coconino National Forest near Flagstaff this week
Fire managers in Coconino National Forest continue three piles of fire near Flagstaff this week.
Work started today and includes wood waste and remains from previous thinning treatments. Forest officials say the snow on the ground gives firefighters more control over the projects.
The crews planned to set fire to about 100 acres near Interstate 17 south of Mountainaire, along with a stake fire north of Baderville and another on Schultz Pass Road.
The work at Doney Park and on I-17 near Kelly Canyon is expected to produce visible smoke, but it should be light and short-lived.
