Californian arrested in Tucson for murder

TUCSON (KVOA) – A California man awaits extradition on Tuesday in Tucson as an alleged murder suspect last Wednesday.

The warrant for the arrest of 33-year-old Clarence Johnson Jr. was issued on August 18, according to United States Marshals, after he allegedly shot his cousin in a verbal altercation in Oakland, California. Johnson shot the victim in the head with a gun that killed him.

Shortly after the shooting, Deputy US Marshals in California discovered that the 33-year-old had fled California and made his way to Tucson.

On Monday, members of the Arizona WANTED Violent Offender Task Force in Tucson immediately began a search for Johnson. Members noted that the suspect resumed his run after buying a greyhound bus ticket to Arkansas. The bus should leave 801 E. 12th St. Station at 8:05 pm

After receiving surveillance footage of the station, U.S. marshals and members of Task Force were able to identify Johnson, who entered the station around 6 p.m.

Task force members entered the station around 8 p.m. and were able to approach and arrest Johnson without causing a scene.

Johnson has been sent to Pima County Jail awaiting extradition to return to California to face his charges.

Johnson was reportedly wanted back in 2010 for a manslaughter conviction for parole violation.
