Chicago Tribune theater critic Chris Jones has been appointed editor of the editorial page
After two decades as a theater critic for the Chicago Tribune, Chris Jones was named editor of the editorial page on Wednesday. But he said he still plans to review “the big shows” for the paper.
The unorthodox move, as first reported here, comes amid staff upheavals following the exodus of more than 40 journalists accepting takeovers from the Tribune’s new owners, New York-based hedge fund Alden Global Capital.
As editor of the editorial page, Jones succeeds Kristen McQueary, who resigned after being rejected for an acquisition.
Jones, 57, joined the Tribune full-time in 2002. Born in Manchester, England, he studied at the University of Hull and Ohio State University and has taught at Northern Illinois University and DePaul University. He also wrote about Theater for Variety.
