Class of 2021 enjoyed the outdoors – Yuma Pioneer

Yuma High School had its first outdoor start in decades and it turned out to be a great event.
The 68-member class of 2021 received their diplomas on a beautiful, mostly cloudy afternoon last Sunday in front of a crowded audience in the soccer / track complex.

Ema Richardson delivered the cum laude speech, and science teacher Max Fokken also gave an excellent speech to the graduates and the crowd.
Richardson, Jayci Mekelburg, Cade Morton, and Jada Young completed Cum Laude (a grade point average of at least 4.0 for all eight semesters of high school).
Shelby Blach, Lane Remmich, Kimberly Guerrero, Jazmin Danner, Tiana McCasland, Sandra Gilliland, Charles Perrin, Joey Ross and Raquel Eduardo graduated with high honors (cumulative grade point average 3.8-3.99).
Cody Gross, Laine Smith, Julissa Garcia, Ana Karina Rascon, Kaylee Etl, Zimtkoch, Kyler Goeglein and Alma Darina Rascon graduated with honors (3.5-3.79 cumulative grade point average).
Lone Star also held its start last Sunday, sending one of its biggest classes in recent times – 16 members – off with a morning start.
The season kicks off on Sunday with Liberty and Arickaree both holding their events. Both schools have four graduates in the 2021 class.
Freedom begins at 1 p.m. Jaret Lichty is the Valedictorian and Tyler Hase is the Salutatorian. Eden Sears and Eastin Hastings also received their diplomas.
The Arickaree ceremony takes place on Sunday at 2 p.m. Jared Mason, Karina Ruiz, Shane Bair and Tristin Niccoli receive their diplomas.
Otis High School will conclude the local graduation season next Friday, October 28th. For more information on the Otis Class of 2021, check out next week’s issue.

School is out for the summer
The Yuma schools opened for the summer last Friday, May 14th. It’s going to be a long summer vacation as school doesn’t start until after Labor Day in 2021-22. The long break is due to the major expansion / renovation project at Yuma High School.
Liberty’s last day of school is today, May 20th.
Although graduation was last Sunday, Lone Stars last day of school is Friday, May 28th for everyone else, as much of the next week is spent on field trips, field days, and eighth grade promotions on May 27th.
Arickaree’s last day of school and eighth grade promotion was Wednesday of that week, May 19th.
The last day of the Otis Seniors was Wednesday May 19th, although graduation won’t take place until next Friday. A large part of the next week is spent on excursions and field days, with the last day of school being May 27th. Eighth grade recognition is Tuesday, May 25th.
