Clemson turns to critical spring practices
Clemson’s has entered the most critical week of spring training, according to head coach Dabo Swinney.
The first part of spring consisted of installation, basics, technique, exercises and competition work. Now it’s time to see who can play. The Tigers will be back on the practice field on Monday for the first time in 10 days and have just finished the spring break to make one last push before the spring game on April 3rd.
“The first nine (spring) exercises were about what we do, how we do it, why we do it,” said Swinney. “These next six exercises, five more from today, are about who can. And then what we need to do to get better this summer … build the drive and confidence you need to get into to go to August. “
The Tigers will have their second full scrimmage Friday along with scrimmage situations throughout the remainder of spring. The team met on Sunday to get going again, which Swinney sees as very beneficial.
In the injury news, recipient Frank Ladson Jr. will no longer exercise for the next two weeks. He was operated on just before the spring break to clean up something, Swinney said, but he will be fully back for summer training.
Aside from other players already knocked out for the spring, Monday gave Swinney the best look he has ever had on his squad. That’s impressive when you consider that Clemson had no COVID-19 issues for the first two days of testing.
“That’s really positive coming up from the spring break, so hopefully it will continue,” said Swinney. “We probably had more people today than ever before, be it a protocol or an injury or whatever we’ll see, pretty much a full team out there.”
