Colorado falls short in Tucson, 3-2

TUCSON, AZ. – Colorado strikers Jean-Luc Foudy and Alex Newhook each scored one goal, but a second two-goal period would give Tucson the game-winning goal as the Roadrunners beat the Eagles 3-2 on Friday. Hunter Miska suffered the net loss, allowing three goals out of 31 shots. Special teams turned out to be a bright spot for Colorado as the penalty shoot-out went perfectly 4-4 while the power play ended the night 2-1.

Scoring would begin at the start of the competition, when Tucson striker Nate Sucese cuts the left circle before shooting a shot into the net to give the roadrunners a 1-0 lead of just 3:31 in the first half procure.

Colorado would generate a quick response when Foudy shot past two Tucson defenders in the middle of the ice and a backhand player overtook Roadrunners’ goalkeeper Ivan Prosvetov to end the game 1-1. Tucson would leave the Eagles 11-10 in the period, and the two teams would go to the first break, with the game still tied 1-1.

The Roadrunners would jump back to the top in the opening minutes of the second half when striker Tyler Steenbergen buried a wrister out of the high slot and put Tucson back in the driver’s seat 2-1 at 2:36 in the middle frame.

A power play later in the period would get Newhook to light the lamp with a wrister from the left circle and end the game 2-2, with 10:40 left in the second period.

Roadrunner striker Michael Carcone would give his team the lead again when he fired a shot from the top of the left circle, looking into the net from Miska’s glove. The goal was Carcone’s team leader 12th of the season and gave the Roadrunners a 3-2 lead on August 15th.

Colorado, who fell 3-2 at the start of the final 20 minutes of regulation, would take 10 shots into the net during that period, but a late power play would be empty and Tucson would hold the 3-2 win. Prosvetov took the win on the net, stopping 33 of the 35 shots he faced in the competition.
