Construction to close wall gaps in Yuma still on hold

YUMA, Ariz. (KECY, KYMA) – Yuma’s wall gaps still remain open a week after the federal government said construction would begin.

While no new barrier is up yet, construction cones and fencing have been placed in the area.

Excavators also sit just a few hundred feet from the gaps.

Also nearby are the piles of unused border fences already purchased by taxpayers.

It’s unclear if the Trump-era fence will be what fills the gaps, as a previous letter sent by customs and border protection to the state of Arizona said they would put in a temporary mesh barrier.
