Cottonwood Tucson introduces experienced first aid treatment programs
TUCSON (KVOA) – Cottonwood Tucson, a behavioral health and addiction treatment provider owned and operated by Summit BHC, has received Veteran-Ready certification from PsychArmor, a nonprofit that works across the civilian population enlighten the military culture.
Cottonwood Tucson now offers its exclusive Tactical Recovery program in mental health and substance use disorder for veterans and first responders.
“We are honored to announce that Cottonwood Tucson is now a Community Care Network provider with the VA,” said Brandon Lasker, CEO of Cottonwood Tucson. “With over 35 years of experience treating mental health and addiction, Cottonwood Tucson is uniquely equipped to treat our servicemen and women who have valiantly protected our country. We have the clinical, psychiatric, and medical services to assist our veterans with recovery from PTSD, mental illness, and substance use disorders. We are passionate about recovery and we are proud to offer this special program tailored to our nation’s heroes. “
There is an increasing need in Tucson and across the country for behavioral residential facilities that are certified and qualified to understand and treat veterans in both addiction and mental health issues, Cottonwood said. By understanding that military service trauma and stressors can contribute to drug and alcohol abuse, practitioners can ensure that veterans receive the level of treatment they deserve.
Cottonwood Tucson has used its PsychArmor training and an in-house team of military veterans and spouses to create a comprehensive detox program for veterans and first responders under the Tactical Recovery banner.
The track is specifically designed to ensure that treatment is provided in a culturally competent and trauma-sensitive setting, with care tailored to each individual with evidence-based practices that have been shown to promote recovery in this unique community.
“In defending our freedom, veterans experience higher addiction rates and mental health challenges than the average American,” said Katie Ross, MSW, Summit director of Veteran Services. “The COVID-19 pandemic has only exacerbated these issues, which is why our mission is to improve access and create a treatment environment that recognizes the unique experiences and culture of the military community.”
Cottonwood Tucson provides treatment services with physicians, psychiatrists, therapists, and other clinical staff specializing in addiction medicine and mental health. The facility has been approved to accept VA health services through the Community Care Network (CCN), which allows veterans and the VA to use community partners outside of the VA network.
