Curran/Buoscio Named Preseason All-Conference Selections, Phoenix Picked Fifth in CAA Preseason Poll

RICHMOND, Va. — The Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) announced its 2022 women’s lacrosse preseason poll and preseason All-CAA team Friday, Jan. 28, with Elon projected to finish fifth in the conference. Gillian Curran was tabbed to an all-conference team selection, while Mikaela Buoscio was named honorable mention.
The Phoenix received 15 points in the poll. James Madison was chosen as the preseason conference favorite, receiving 35 points and five first place votes. Drexel followed in second with 32 points and two first place votes. Towson and Hofstra rounded out the top five with 26 and 21 votes, respectively.
Curran, a preseason All-CAA honorable mention in 2021, ranked ninth in the conference last year in draw controls per game (3.0) and assists per game (.92). Starting in all 12 games, she paced the Phoenix with in draw controls (36) in addition to ranking third on the team in total points (32), including 21 goals and 11 assists.
Buoscio played in 11 games last in 2021 and started against Towson in the opening round of the CAA championship. The sophomore scored her first goal as a Phoenix and tallied a season high three draw controls against Furman. Buoscio finished with four ground balls and seven draw controls in her first season with the Phoenix.
The maroon and gold will open its season at home against Virginia on Friday, Feb. 11 at 4 pm
