Hua Chuka City, Arizona (KGUN) – A gust, perhaps a micro-explosion, blew off part of the roof of the SAHARA thrift store in Hua Chuka City.

“I’ve been here several times, but I haven’t done anything like that,” says Rick Hackney, who runs a thrift store.

“When I opened the door, it sounded like a waterfall here.”

Hackney, who runs a business with his girlfriend, said he discovered wind damage outside and flood damage inside after a storm hit the area this weekend.

According to him, the estimates ranged from 80 to 90 miles per hour.

“We had leaks everywhere. It ran over the entire seam of the building and over all the goods in the store. “

Part of the roof of the second-hand clothing store was blown away more than 30 meters away.

“The roof was removed and placed on the other side of the building.”

Hackney said he filed an insurance claim but has not yet received an estimate of the damage.

“The shop will remain closed until we can repair this roof.”

His thrift store finances his charity.

“Everything we sell in this shop brings food to the pantry next door and distributes it to those in need.”

Just as water leaks from a damaged roof, food depot supplies begin to decline and feed on local families.

“Last month we distributed 316 boxes of groceries.”

While repairing damage to second-hand clothing stores, Hackney said the damage could be motivating to others. To help..

“Donate food and money to the pantry so you can swing the door over there until it’s done here.”
