Delgadillo hired as Flagstaff’s defensive coordinator | Local

“There are just so many parts to being a head coach. I thought I could do anything and I really think I could if I had to. But I looked at my co-workers and made just one simple remark that somehow hinted that he could. And he said, ‘Coach, I’m ready anytime,’ and that’s where we started, ”said Manning.

Since working together at JV years ago, the couple’s defense plans have been mirrored. Both want their athletes to play fast and rely on their technique and practice so that they “don’t have to think too much” and react instinctively to the offense.

With a similar mindset, Delgadillo made the transition to the new job smoother.

“He’s the head coach, so I’d want to run what he wants anyway, but I like that defense. It’s not that I get into a position where I disagree with what’s going on. It makes sense to me, ”said Delgadillo.

The 2021 high school football season is drawing near, with team camp a few weeks away and the first game slated to begin on September 3rd at Peoria High School. Delgadillo begins cementing a defensive playbook for the unit that both he and Manning believe will be a huge part of the Eagles’ success this year.

Delgadillo believes that a particular strength of the defense could be the line of defense. Led by highly recruited senior defensive lineman Nick Morrow on one side and Senior Spencer Smith – former linebacker who has seen a lot of time on the line this season – on the other, the group promises to be impressive.
