Demolition of the Phoenix Paradise Valley Mall in progress

Red development

Demolition of Paradise Valley Mall in north Phoenix began on July 7, 2021.

The first phase of the renovation of the Paradise Valley Mall began on Wednesday.

The crews began demolishing the former Sears and Macy’s stores on the premises on Cactus Road and Tatum Boulevard. According to Red Development, the demolition should take until 2021.

Phoenix City Council approved the redevelopment plan in February.

As KJZZ reported last November, Paradise Valley Mall owner Macerich is working with Red Development to transform the indoor mall into an outdoor destination with green spaces and paths throughout the project. Up to 2,500 apartments are planned in a building of up to ten floors as well as a mixture of restaurants, retail, grocery, offices and self-storage.

Construction of a Whole Foods grocery store and some residential and retail space is slated to begin this fall.

The Phoenix Costco, multi-storey car park and library branch will be retained.
