Destroyed George Floyd Mural in Phoenix
PHOENIX – – A mural in Phoenix that is a tribute to George Floyd was destroyed.
Vandals painted the word “Fentanyl” on the mural located near 15th Street and the oak. The eyes and mouth were crossed out in Floyd’s picture too.
The mural shows Floyd on a $ 20 bill, which symbolizes a fake $ 20 bill that he was accused of before he died. The mural was created last year by the New York artist Jeremie Bacpac Franko.
“The reason I do a $ 20 bill is because George Floyd was killed over a $ 20 bill. We may never know if it was a fake or not,” Franko said.
Floyd died on May 25 after the now-discharged Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin held him to the ground by resting his knee on Floyd’s neck for a few minutes. The incident was captured on video and sparked unrest and violence across the country.
Chauvin is currently on trial in Floyd’s death.
