The Coconino County Board of Supervisors recognized the service of County Manager Jimmy Jayne during his final board meeting in that position this week.

Jayne, who announced his intention to retire last December after serving as a manager for three years, will stay for a while. But this week was the last time he attended a board meeting in the managerial role. Instead, Jayne will serve in an advisory position and assist Steve Peru in his transition if he takes over the position.

“Serving the public here in Coconino County has been one of the highlights of my 30-year civil service career,” Jayne told the board and district executive.

Prior to Coconino County, Jayne also served as a manager in Navajo County.

“Thank you for all you have done for Coconino County. I promise I won’t screw it up, ”Peru told Jayne.

Matt Ryan, the county chairman, recognized Jayne for the leadership he had taken for the county through several difficult moments, including the museum fire and the ongoing pandemic and economic downturn.

Ryan said Jayne had helped modernize the county departments, including improvements to the public affairs department, adding that the baskets of biscuits he would be handing out would also be sorely missed.
