Dog bite call leads Yuma Police to several pets in need of medical care

YPD says 16 dogs have been removed from the local business

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) – A local business owner has faced animal cruelty on five occasions after a report of a dog bite led Yuma police to numerous animals in need of medical attention.

The Yuma Police Department (YPD) says officers were called just before noon on Monday at Urban K9 on E. 20th Street. Officials said when they arrived they found several dogs suffering from heat exhaustion. The officers removed eight dogs at the time. A local vet examined all of the dogs and then turned them over to the Humane Society of Yuma for care.

On Wednesday, YPD returned to the store and removed an additional seven dogs, bringing the total number of dogs removed from the store to 15.

The police eventually quoted the owner with five cases of animal cruelty.

The officials are investigating this case further. They urge anyone with information to call (928) 783-4421 or 78-Crime at (928) 782-7463 to remain anonymous.
