Domelevo Dismissal: The Presidency attempted to correct the record with a 21-page response

Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah is Minister of Information

Ghanaian Information Minister Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah said the intent behind the 21-page response from the President’s Office to the CSOs Against Corruption in dismissing former Auditor General Daniel Yao Domelevo was merely to keep the record straight.

He stated that given all the details, attacks and counter-attacks that flown around in connection with the handling of the matter and allegations that the government had failed to address corruption issues, there was a need to issue such a detailed document.

On the night of Friday March 19, 2021, Nana Bediatuo Asante, Executive Secretary of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, issued a 21-page open letter to the Coalition of Civil Society Organizations Against Corruption.

Answered a question related to the above during a press conference on Sunday, March 21, 2021, Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah said the government hoped this document would give finality to the public dispute.

“One of the parts of the statute as issued is that ‘Mr Domelevo has not been dismissed nor has his appointment terminated. He retired by law because he had reached the compulsory retirement age of 60 years.’

“So if you ask one question about what the office of President is trying to achieve is to correct the record because, as I mentioned earlier, you see people formulating narratives with different analyzes and gradually the facts start to change So it is a purely technical matter of the former Auditor-General who, on the basis of laws and comments from civil society organizations, has retired to distort the facts that have happened, “he explained.
