DPD launches Facebook page in Spanish
The department hopes to break down language barriers.
DECatur, Alabama – The Decatur Police Department aims to break down language barriers within the Latin X community. The department launched a new Facebook page in Español.
It includes information in Spanish about upcoming events, safety alerts, community resources, and crime prevention tips.
According to the US Census, the Latinx community grew 35 percent between 2010 and 2020.
They also hope the page will “serve as a tool to effectively disseminate important information, connect with more neighbors, and answer any questions our Hispanic community might have.”
“Our Hispanic community is growing fast and we just want to meet their needs and help them as much as we can. We really just wanted to create another line of communication between us and the Spanish speaking community. You may not know information that most people know just because there’s a language barrier, and we really want to bridge that gap, said Irene Cardenas-Martinez, liaison for public information.
Cardenas-Martinez said this is good for both English and Spanish speakers. If you know someone who could benefit from the site, share it!
