Dream Acquire Yvonne Turner from Phoenix
ATLANTA – The Atlanta Dream has taken over guard Yvonne Turner of the Phoenix Mercury as part of a deal for a third round of the 2022 WNBA Draft, the organization said on Saturday.
“We are happy to welcome Vonnie to the ATL,” said head coach Nicki Collen. “We need point guard depth and believe their combination of speed and skill suits our current squad well. Vonnie’s long journey to the WNBA is testament to her work ethic and love for the game, and we are excited to add her veteran presence to our backyard. “
Turner, a 5-10-person guard from Nebraska, averaged 6.4 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists at the Mercury in 2019, improving in each statistical category from their two previous seasons. She missed the 2020 season with an overseas knee injury. Prior to joining Phoenix in 2017, Turner played overseas in Hungary, Australia, Germany, Russia, Ecuador, Turkey, Spain and Poland.
Turner currently plays for Glammes Carolo in France and averages 11.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.0 assists in three Eurocup games. Before signing with Phoenix, she played for Uniqa Sopron in Hungary, where she led the EuroLeague in the 2016/17 season with 18.8 points per game. She also finished as one of only two players in the EuroLeague to rank in the top 10 in both rating and assists per game (5.1), while she was also in the top 10 in steals per game (2.0) ranked.
