East Valley Endocrinology Opens Flagstaff Practice | Local

Dr. Devendra Wadwekar, practice owner at East Valley Diabetes and Endocrinology, said he reckoned 60 to 70% of doctor visits would be for diabetes. This is typical for endocrinological practices and is also the case at the Gilbert site.

Until last week, Wadwekar said the Flagstaff site was only providing advice, but Blohm was qualified for a number of other procedures (like thyroid biopsies) – which they wanted to use shortly.

“And our practice is in a private nursing practice,” he said, “so if the patients need anything else, we have access to other specialties that can help them.”

Wadwekar said East Valley has had “many years” planning to expand into Flagstaff.

He said the Glendale practice saw patients from the area, including students from Northern Arizona University. However, in the past they did not have enough doctors on staff to support this expansion. Now that East Valley has Blohm who has experience and lives a little closer (although still in Scottsdale), Wadwekar said, they have felt more comfortable moving forward with the new location.

“We’re looking for someone who is more local over there,” he said of his hopes for the future of the new office. “We have already made an investment, but endocrine disrupting is a difficult specialty to recruit.”
