Editor’s Note: Flagstaff City Councilors Take Courageous Stance on Housing | Letters

On July 6, Flagstaff City Council passed a controversial 4-3 vote to approve Aura development on an 11-acre property between Timber Trails and The Lodge Apartments. I understand some of the caveats of the three opposing council members, but overall I believe the development is an asset to Flagstaff and I am glad it passed.

It promotes Flagstaff’s climate and sustainability goals (development, adds a bus stop to the area, participates in the sustainable building program), makes several public improvements (expands the FUTS path and adds four pickle ball courts) and sets a new bar for affordable housing (32 low-income units, reserved for 60 years instead of the usual 30).

I see this vote as evidence that the Council members are on the right track and I have great confidence in their ability to handle the difficult problems facing Flagstaff.
