Archaeological Society
The Rim Country Chapter of the Arizona Archaeological Society continues to operate on the COVID-19 guidelines, which will continue through the spring. The chapter has partnered with the San Tan chapter to provide both speakers through the Zoom platform and excursions for members of both chapters.
The next presentation by San Tan Zoom will be on Wednesday April 14th at 7pm with Dr. Niccole Villa Cerveny, Professor of Earth Sciences and Sustainability at Mesa Community College.
Her talk, Comparing Rock Art Stability – Climate Impacts in the American Southwest and the Hisma Basin of Jordan, will highlight petroglyph sites in the Southwest. The Rock Art Stability Index enables field researchers to quantify the threats to our cultural heritage in similar environments. She will contrast the challenges of protecting rock art in the Southwest with those in the Middle East.
To join the Rim Country Chapter for 2021 and access Zoom talks or take part in scheduled excursions (or renew your membership), please contact Chapter Treasurer Dennis Dubose at [email protected].

Auction for the youth
Every April, the Zane Gray Country Kiwanis Club hosts a themed dinner auction and a youth auction. This is the main fundraiser sponsored by the club. She is raising funds to provide over $ 10,000 scholarships to Payson High School graduates and sponsor other youth-oriented community programs.
Community residents and businesses donate most of the auction items.
Since its inception in 1982, Kiwanis has awarded over $ 600,000 in scholarships. Most scholarships range from $ 1,000 to $ 3,000 per qualified student.
Like most charities, we have had issues raising donations over the past year due to COVID-19 restrictions.
This year we took the auction online. It runs from April 5th to 18th. Kiwanis members encourage residents to visit the website, bid generously, and tell your friends about the auction.

Day of prayer
The length and severity of the drought in the region is increasingly having a negative impact on forests, wildlife and many individuals and families in the region.
The whole of Rim Country is invited to attend a non-denominational day of prayer on Sunday May 2nd and ask for a blessing to restore moisture to the area.
