Fans return to downtown Phoenix for the Diamondbacks home opening game
Companies that look forward to baseball fans returning when DBacks are ready for the home opening game
It has been more than a year since fans were able to attend baseball games in person thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic.
PHOENIX – – Baseball is back in Chase Field when the Arizona Diamondbacks play their home opener on April 9 at Downtown Phoenix Stadium.
The home opener is the first time in more than a year that fans have been able to participate in games. Fan participation in games ended abruptly in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Up to 20,000 fans can cheer for the Diamondbacks in Chase Field. The return of fans brings renewed hope for weak businesses in downtown Phoenix.
“We have another heartbeat,” said Eric Stoltz, who owns Willie’s Taco Joint. “It was a struggle. Seeing people on the streets again now was great.”
Stoltz closed the doors on Willie’s Taco Joint in June 2020 and was forced to find alternative ways to do business. “We were only open for catering and taco carts,” said Stoltz.
Since the Phoenix Suns fans returned to downtown Phoenix in the past few weeks, Stoltz has reopened. Now that the dbacks season has started, business is getting closer to normal.
“People can go out, it’s nice. The people who go out and want to spend money go to the events, so it was really good,” said Stoltz.
“When these guys come back even though it’s only about 50% capacity, just people dropping in, stopping by, having lunch and having a drink before the game, that means we did it. We’re excited,” said Jason Bell, co -Owner of the Crown Public House.
Some of the fans traveled from Texas to Phoenix.
“For the most part, I’m ready to come out and scream like a madman for the Diamondbacks to win games,” said Tracy Byas
