Fifth grade teacher in Tucson receives $ 1,000 scholarship

TUCSON, Ariz. (KGUN) – A teacher at Mission Manor Elementary School received a special surprise Tuesday.

Fifth grade teacher Ms. Alicia McKenzie received a $ 1,000 grant from the Four Peaks Brewing Company for her classroom.

The brewery says it was handpicked from thousands of nominees for their dedication to their students, between running the student council or doing backpacking trips.

McKenzie says she hopes to use the money to make learning fun.

“I don’t know exactly what, but definitely school supplies. Maybe called some really fun things for my students to do to work on our new science unit we’re starting.

She was nominated by six people who presented her with the surprise.
