First look: Propain’s new Yuma children’s bike
Propain has added a new children’s bike to its range – the 140 mm travel Yuma.
The bike uses an aluminum frame, an optimized suspension system and strives to offer young riders a balanced and stable geometry.
The bike is delivered with 24 “wheels, but can easily be converted to 26” with a flip chip. Hopefully this should make the idea of buying a mountain bike a little less intimidating for parents in terms of the financial outlay.
Geometry and structure
The frame uses a reach of 380mm combined with an effective seat and head tube angle that would make many adult bikes blush at 75 and 65 degrees respectively.
The Yuma frame is lightweight and is also aimed at children by having a relatively low standover height to ensure that they always have their feet on the ground. The 2.7kg frame weight doesn’t seem feather-light, however, but the overall construction is a reasonable 12.7kg, which is south of 28lb.
Propane claims that the “optimal length of the top tube combined with a steep seat angle allows the youngsters an upright pedal position and optimal weight distribution over the handlebars when going downhill”.
The bike uses a single pivot point to provide 140mm of travel on the rear wheel. Propain wanted to use a system that is light and manageable and that makes the bike’s suspension travel usable even for lighter riders. The bike is available in two color variants and can be configured to your taste with a head tube badge, sticker and handle colors.
The Yuma is available in two different colors and also offers the option of customizing some details.
The bike contains Acros frame bearings, which are equipped with an additional seal. The additional seal prevents the ingress of dirt or moisture. The bikes also use internal cable routing, as well as down tube and chainstay protection. There will only be one kit.
Inside the front frame triangle there is not only space for a 500 ml water bottle, but also a small tool at the back that is attached to the bottom bracket junction on the seat tube. The frame is also compatible with internally routed seat posts.
