Flagstaff city officials are considering an alternative care center

Flagstaff City Council will hold a special working session this week to deliberate on a possible alternative care center.

City officials say the center would provide services to individuals to minimize police interactions and reduce trips to hospital emergency rooms.

Earlier this month, the city council discussed a possible $ 2.4 million allocation for programs to support “alternative care facilities.”

Funding in the proposed budget would come from the Biden government’s American Rescue Plan. According to city documents, Flagstaff is slated to receive more than $ 13.2 million through the federal program.

The public session is scheduled for Friday.
