Flagstaff, Coconino Open Region Play With Home Losses Friday Night – Great Circle Media of Arizona

Both the Flagstaff Eagles and Coconino Panthers had rough starts to their Grand Canyon Region schedule, both losing at home Friday night. The Flagstaff Eagles battled the Prescott Badgers in the Skydome for the region opener for both teams. Prescott scored quickly taking a 13-0 lead in the first quarter. Prescott led 20-0 before Flagstaff got on the board with a touchdown run by Jayden Wetzel to make it 20-7. Flagstaff would recover a fumble two plays later and had the momentum. An interception by Prescott killed the momentum and the game fell apart for Flagstaff. The Badgers would score 35 points in the second quarter to lead 55-7 at halftime. Chase Brown would find Holden Sena for a touchdown in the fourth quarter, but Prescott would get the win 58-14. The Coconino Panthers had 298 yards rushing, but had mental mistakes that cost them as they fell to the Lee Williams Volunteers 14-7 at home. Senior running back Cooper French had 159 yards on 23 carries for Coconino. Enoch Watson was just two-of-four for 28 yards and a touchdown, which went to Bridger French for the Panthers lone score in the fourth quarter. Troy Edwards was 13-of-17 for 155 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Volunteers. Junior Noah Petrauschke led Lee Williams with 20 tackles in the game. Next week Flagstaff travels to Kingman to take on Lee Williams. Coconino will take on Mingus for homecoming next Friday night.
