“Now that its 12-player roster is complete, the US Paralympic Wheelchair Rugby Team can only focus on one thing: to get back to the top of the medal ranks.

“Team USA has the most wheelchair rugby gold medals since the sport’s Paralympic debut in 1996, but is aiming for its first championship since the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games. The athletes had to wait even longer for their gold medal with the Tokyo Games being postponed , but convened last week for a team selection camp at the Lakeshore Foundation Olympic and Paralympic Training Grounds in Birmingham, Alabama, with sixteen athletes competing for a spot on the team, 12 of whom were selected for the Paralympic line-up and four as substitutes.

“When the games were postponed last March, we made a promise to each other that we would finish what we started and we want to do just that,” said Mandy Goff, USA Wheelchair Rugby High Performance Manager, in one Press release. “We’ve been through a lot together in the last 14 months and I think that, along with your hard work and dedication, it will be what will catapult us onto the podium.”
