Alexander Baca, a 30-year-old man from Flagstaff, has pleaded guilty to the murder of his ex-girlfriend.
The indictment came last month in Coconino County Superior Court, where Baca was charged by a grand jury of first degree murder and aggravated harassment.
Baca is accused of following his ex-girlfriend Gwendolyn Argo before she violently assaulted her outside her home in the middle of the night, according to court records.
Argo’s neighbor called the police at around 2:50 am on May 27 and said she had heard an argument, followed by a “loud blow”. When the neighbor went outside to investigate the noise, they told officers that Argo was bleeding from his head and possibly had a broken arm, according to a likely cause.
Police said she arrived a few minutes later and Argo was unresponsive with a serious head injury. She was transported to Flagstaff Medical Center, where she later died after suffering severe blunt trauma to her head and a broken left humerus.
One of the neighbors, a friend of Argo’s, told an officer at the scene that they had seen a tall man with an athletic stature in the area at the time of the incident, according to the report. The neighbor identified the man as Argos’ ex-boyfriend, who is said to have been Baca.
Just weeks earlier, Argo served an injunction on Baca following an earlier domestic violence incident that occurred on April 11, court records show. After he strangled Argo, police said Baca was charged with kidnapping in one case and with aggravated assault in two cases.
